Difference between a CV and resume

Difference between a CV and resume

Although sometimes we use the terms CV and Resume interchangeably, but in reality there is a difference between a CV and and a Resume. The reason it is important to know the difference is simply because if a particular job advertisement has asked the applicants to submit a CV and they instead submit a resume, this could leave a very bad impression. And they may not even take a second look at your CV/Resume.

CV

Curriculum vitae is a Latin expression which can be loosely translated as course of (my) life. The traits of a CV are following:
  • It can be several pages in length.
  • It is more general, more broad and not job specific.
  • Job Experiences
  • Skills Relevant to the job
  • Education
  • Awards/Honors
  • It contains information such as professional associations/affiliations, social work, co-curricular activities, training attended, references, research papers/publications, etc.
  • It can contain a wide range of experiences, even if they are not relevant to the job you are applying too.

Resume

The word résumé comes from the French word résumé meaning “summarized”.*

  • Resume is 1-2 pages in length.
  • Contains experience (relevant to the job).
  • Education (relevant to the job)
  • Awards/Achievements (relevant to the job).
  • Common traits of a CV and Resume

    • Job Experiences
    • Skills
    • Education
    • Awards/Honors
So, next time you see a job opening, carefully try to see whether you need to submit a CV or a Resume. If they are asking for a resume, try to update your resume specific to that particular job before applying. This will not only leave a good impression on the recruiters and help their job, but also maximize your chances of getting shortlisted for the interview.

How to get Windows 10 when the upgrade button is missing

How to get Windows 10 when the upgrade button is missing

ndows 10 comes out on July 29. But, even more exciting than that, Microsoft’s new operating system will be free for nearly all users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 (check your eligibility). If have either of these, then just clicking on the "Get Windows 10" icon on your taskbar will see it downloaded and installed.
Fine, in theory, but for many users it seems that this icon is missing. But do not panic, because we are here to help you summon the "Get Windows 10" icon so you can update your system on July 29.  (Source: Microsoft Answers)

Why is the icon missing from my taskbar and how can I get it back?

For most users the icon is missing if:
1. Your PC is not updated to the latest version: SP1 for Windows 7 or the latest update for Windows 8.1. 2. Windows Update is disabled or is not configured to receive automatic updates. 3. You blocked or uninstalled the necessary Windows Updatefunction.
UpdateIf the reason you are not seeing the button is one of these three reasons, the solution is simple:
For Windows 7 users, go to Control Panel> System and Security> Windows Update> Check for Updates (Windows 7). And for Windows 8 users, go to Control Panel> Windows Update> Search Updates (Windows 8).
In this menu you'll find the latest version of whatever version of Windows you are running. Then all you have to do is follow the prompts to install the update and the “Get Windows 10” button should magically appear.

Is the icon still missing?

It is possible that even after updating your version of Windows the icon still won’t show up.
1. Your copy of Windows is not genuine. 2. Your PC is running Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8 / 8.1 Enterprise or Windows RT / RT 8.1, which are excluded from this offer. 3. The PC is part of a shared network (school or company). 4. You arealready registered and the update will be automatically activated on July 29th 2015.
Eligible
In cases 1 and 2, you cannot upgrade. In case 3 this update will be decided by your organization, check with your IT department. In case 4, you don’t have to do anything.

None of the above applies to you but the icon is still missing

It is possible that your PC is eligible for the upgrade but icon remains missing from the taskbar. In that case there is another possibility. This method is a little more advanced however, so here is a step-by-step walk-through.
1. Open Notepad 2. Copy and paste in the following - not in any way fun to read - text:
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators" /v UpgEx | findstr UpgEx if "%errorlevel%" == "0" GOTO RunGWX reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser" /v UtcOnetimeSend /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f schtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" :CompatCheckRunning schtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" schtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" | findstr Ready if NOT "%errorlevel%" == "0" ping localhost >nul &goto :CompatCheckRunning :RunGWX schtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig"
3. Click File, then Save As 4. Save the file with the name ReserveWin10.cmd 5. Click thedropdown menu next to Save as type, select All Files (*. *) 6. Select a folder to save the file. For simplicities sake we will use C:/Temp. Then click Save. 7. On the home screen or menu, type Command Prompt in the search box. Then, in the list of results, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator 8. Run the file you created in Step 6. In our case we would write C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmd
Not exciting cmd prompt
The system will then run some checks that will last around 10-30 minutes, so be patient.

EXAMINATION SECRETS

EXAMINATION SECRETS

Most people fail in exams not because they did not prepare well for the exams but because they never understood examination secrets. Each exam has its rules and principles governing it. This article presents general secrets which you can apply when writing any exam in any part of the world.

DON’T PANIC- Avoid panicking during an exam. In most cases, the examination atmosphere is tense to avoid students from communicating with one another. This is because the evaluation process might be compromised and will lead to poor evaluation.  Despite this atmosphere which most exams usually have, especially public exams, keep your calm. At this moment just be positive and say to yourself I can do it. This will not affect your psychology or your state of mind.

ALWAYS BE 15 MINUTES AHEAD OF TIME- Always be 15minutes ahead of time means that if the examination is supposed to take 60minutes you should program your own time to 45minutes. This will prepare your psychology and permit you to gain more time in the area where any correction will be required on your part. This will as well permit you to control your thinking time over your script.

LISTEN AND READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS- Instructions given during exams are very important. We can say this is the beginning of the exam. If you fail to be attentive at this point, it may blow off your results performance. It is advisable to listen to all instructions given by the examiners or examination supervisors. It’s also important to carefully read the instructions on your question paper and answering sheet. You should be able to identify when you are been asked to use ticks or to use X when answering questions of multi-choice answers. This will give you the right standing during an exam.

COME UP WITH AN ANSWERING PLAN- Coming up with an answering plan is very important when answering essay questions. You need to come up with an introduction, body and the conclusion. You will have to define the content of each part in a coherent and orderly manner. It is advisable for you to use your rough sheet during exams to come up with a plan and to write tentative answers to questions which you are not yet sure of.

GO THROUGH YOUR WORK- It is always necessary to go through your work and make any necessary corrections that are required. The tentative answers that you wrote on your rough sheet should be confirmed or modified at this stage. This is now where you could use the remaining 15minutes to perfect your work.  It is always very important for you to go through your script before the stop time. This will help affect your performance positively.

The above examinations secrets should be followed as presented in order to obtain better results for those who made their preparations before exams. Making preparations before exams and identifying the secrets during exams will give you an outstanding score. This can also be helpful in IELYS and TOEFL exams.

5 WAYS TO PREPARE FOR AN EXAM

5 WAYS TO PREPARE FOR AN EXAM

Statistics have shown that many people fail in exams because they don’t actually know how to prepare for one. Because of this, many fear exams and some are afraid to further their studies. The fear of exams has led to many school drop outs. If this has been your case don’t worry for the solution is found in this article as you keep reading it. In order to be successful in any exam proper preparation is required. In addition to proper preparation, understanding the techniques of proper preparation is needed.

BE CONFIDENT: Whenever you are about to prepare for an exam, the first and most important aspect you should take note is that you must have confidence in yourself. As soon as you panic or demonstrate fear it will destroy everything that has to do with your preparation. Cast away any fear that would want to arise and focus on your preparation. When you identify that the fear is gone and the confidence is established then you are set to prepare for your exam. Statistics all over the whole has shown that many students fail their exam because of fear and panic which acts as an obstacle during their preparation. Be confident to succeed.

STUDY WITH FOCUS: studying with focus means you should study without being distracted. You should concentrate on the syllabus of you study. Avoid doing research work that is not closely related with your study. They will only cause you to lose time and affect the mastery you could have obtained within a shorter period of time. When studying always remember to make a summary of what you have read. This is one of the things which will help you during your preparation time for an exam.

PAST EXAMINATION QUESTIONS: Past Examination questions help students to succeed in most exams.Go through quiz questions.  All exams have passed questions. Exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, CISCO and much more have past questions.  It’s important for students to identify where they can get the examination past questions for which they are preparing for. When you get these questions, you have to go through it, try as much as possible to answer all of the questions. The challenges that you will meet in the past examination questions during your preparation will surely be the same you will meet in your exams.

SEEK UNDERSTANDING AND AVOID CRAMMING: Most students always do cram work for their studies. Cramming is dangerous for exam preparation. Those who always cram later discover that with time they have forgotten what they read. This could lead to great failure at times in exams. Rather than cramming your books or notes, seek understanding. When you prepare for an exam well ahead of time you will be able to understand the course work.  When you seek to understand your course work, it would be very difficult for you to have a score lower than 70.

RELAX A DAY BEFORE YOUR EXAMS: A day before your exams you should relax. You could listen to nice classical music. This is to reduce the tension you might have because of the upcoming exam. On That day you could lecture others about what you have read. This will help you have more confidence in yourself and confirm that you have indeed understood what you have studied.  Have good sleep several hours before your exams at least 12hours. This will help to keep you in a calm state of mind and take away any stress which might want to arise within you.
